Dentistry is the area of dental medicine that treats tooth injuries, whether caused by tooth decay, trauma, wear or any other reason.
It allows us to replace the dental anatomy lost, that is, to restore the shape, size, function and aesthetics of your teeth.
It is important to know that tooth decay is an infectious disease that affects 90% of the population and this pathology is responsible for the vast majority of treatments in the field of dentistry.
Pathologies treated by dentistry:
- TOOTH DECAY
The origin of tooth decay is bacterial, but it can arise due to several other factors.
It is asymptomatic at the beginning, which makes it more dangerous: since there are no complaints, it does not attract the patient's attention.
As caries progresses, more and more tooth structure is lost, and when it gets worse, it can lead to tooth loss.
The oral cavity has bacteria and some are pathogenic, which means they cause disease.
Some of these bacteria produce acids strong enough to erode tooth enamel, initially by making small holes in the enamel, and later in the dentine (the innermost tissue of the tooth).
Those holes grow until the tooth is completely destroyed.
Dentistry is responsible for treating teeth with primary or secondary teeth decay lesions both in the enamel and in the dentine.
