WHAT IS TOOTH BLEACHING?
IT IS AN AESTHETIC TREATMENT THAT ESSENTIALLY AIMS TO MODIFY, BY WHITENING, THE EXTERNAL SURFACE OF THE TEETH.
Our natural teeth are not white; their colour ranges from light pearl to brownish yellow, depending on the genetics and environmental factors, such as smoking. Drinks such as coffee, tea and wine can greatly interfere with the external colour of our teeth.
Fortunately, we have at our disposal today tooth whitening treatment that is minimally invasive, safe and allows these changes in tooth colour to be corrected.
Tooth bleaching is based on the action of substances that “clean” teeth from the inside out. In other words, these substances can act to remove stains from the enamel and dentine.
Therefore, the whitening products act on the most extrinsic (external) marks, located on the surface of the tooth enamel.
The whitening gel penetrates the enamel by releasing O2 molecules that promote its depigmentation.
The colour of the teeth is classified on a scale that allows us to measure the colours of the teeth.
Thanks to tooth whitening, teeth can “go up” several tones on the scale.
But don't forget: after a year of eating and drinking normally (for example, coffee, tea and soft drinks), new stains may appear. It is essential that this treatment is carried out and monitored by an oral health professional!
